Cortijo Bujio

Bujio is an old Gypsy word

meaning 'hidden place'

The name 'Bujio' is an old Gypsy word meaning 'hidden place'. This one was built in 1877 as a farmhouse.  Set in the olive groves near Montefrío, Granada, Bujio now serves as a country retreat where you can inhale the beauty and authenticity of Andalusia. Imagine yourself sitting underneath  ancient grapevines, overlooking mountains with olive trees, and in the distance the Sierra Nevada.

Furnished with a view to modern comfort and style, Bujio combines elements of the Moorish with the original character of an Andalusian farmhouse (Cortijo). In creating this stunning environment, every effort has been made to reuse existing materials. White wash walls, traditional exposed beams and flag stone floors combine perfectly with the rural beauty of the property's surroundings.

All rooms are centrally heated, ensuring that visitors can enjoy Bujio all year round. To add to the Cortijo’s charms, the living room and 'La Torre Suite' have traditional Andalusian open fireplaces in keeping with the property’s rustic origins. Above all, each bedroom has its own very distinct character with spectacular views. Natural fibre rugs and Egyptian cotton bed linen are used throughout in rooms furnished with antiques, while en-suite bathrooms are provided with the finest organic products, pure cotton towels, bathrobes and slippers.

These are just some of the features visitors will find in this uniquely restored and extended Cortijo.

The surroundings invite guests

to relax and unwind

Each room has its own private terrace with sun loungers, table and chairs - ideal for intimate candle-lit dinners. Outside, a path leads through the expansive grounds to a large swimming pool flanked by a Moorish style casita, complete with its own bar and barbecue area. Here, guests can relax in the Andalusian sun beneath parasols at the waters edge. A children's play area with paddling pool is ideally located by the swimming pool for parental supervision.

For the more energetic, fitness-conscious guest there is an open-air gym where you can feast your eyes on Montefrío's very own Parapanda mountain without leaving the Cortijo. Accessed via a bridge and built on stilts, the fully equipped gym comes with a range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment. Guests can also take advantage of our games area below the gym, which offers badminton, volleyball and table tennis equipment.

Somewhat less demanding, though providing a fascinating diversion, is the viewing platform with a telescope suitable for terrestrial and celestial viewing. Alternatively, guests can book a massage with a local therapist in Bujio's own 'Salon de Terapia'. Surrounded by tranquil vistas across woodlands and olive groves, guests can relax and enjoy their personalized treatment.
